Acupuncture is performed by inserting single-use, factory-sealed, disposable needles that are as thin as a single strand of hair into specific acupuncture points across the body. Whether your experienced symptoms are physical or emotional, the acupuncture needles are used to stimulate the body's natural healing response by increasing the circulation of blood and Qi (pronounced "Chee" also know as "life energy") throughout the body to bring it back into balance/harmony and end to experienced symptoms that brought you into Altitude Acupuncture's clinic.
Chinese Herbal Therapy
Chinese Herbal Therapy is the use of Chinese herbs to create individualized internal formulas for each patient who chooses this path in bettering his or her health. There are over 5,000 medicinal and natural substances that can be used for internal and/or external treatment of illness, to improve health and/or in prevention of disease. Chinese Herbal Therapy is often used in conjunction with acupuncture to increase faster healing time. This therapy does not have to be used for every patient or in order for acupuncture to be effective. This option is available to be incorporated into your acupuncture treatments if you desire.
Cupping is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that utilizes small glass or plastic cups as suction devices that are placed on the skin. With glass cups, the suction is obtained by using a fire-lit cotton ball to draw out the oxygen. This process is done by quickly inserting and removing the fire-lit cotton ball into the cup and then placing the cup immediately onto the desired area (fire is not left in the cup while on the skin). When using plastic cups the suction is created by a hand held pump that removes the excess air out to create a suction between the cup and skin. Once the cups are suctioned onto the skin, they can be kept in place or gently moved across the skin. While cupping is utilized to increase health, it is quite relaxing and pleasant. This ancient technique is used often as it is thought to affect tissues up to four inches deep from the external skin. The skin is gently pulled up into the cups to stimulate the lymphatic system. The cupping technique brings fresh blood and oxygen to the affected site and carries away stagnant or damaged blood to speed up the healing process.
Moxibustion, also known as Moxa, is the application of the Chinese Herb, Mugwort (Artemesia Vulgaris or Ai Ye) to or near the surface of the skin. Moxa is traditionally used to warm/heat the body and allow the oils to penetrate through the skin. The therapeutic benefits of Moxa are to encourage circulation and healing by increasing red and white blood cells and relaxing the pores on the surface of the skin. Moxa is often used for many experienced symptoms, including infertility, gynecology issues, arthritic pain, cold within the body, weakened immune system, etc.
Tui Na is utilized in treatment to harmonize the flow of energy and blood throughout the body through massage and gentle manual manipulation to the meridians within our body. Like cupping, this therapy allows the body to naturally heal itself by improving circulation, releasing tension and easing pain.
